Danger! Be Aware when working at height

Working at height is the distance from the ground level to the foot level of the worker that more than 2.0 meter (according to the Announcement of the Ministry of Interior). If one falls, he/she will be injured from head, arm, leg, elbow, wrist, knee, or body.

If one falls, he/she will be injured from head, arm, leg, elbow, wrist, knee, or body, but the most severe part is the head without wearing the safety helmet may cause to be disabled or dead.

Safety procedures for working at height as below:

  1. Managing the working system to reduce working at height such as assembling the roof structure on the ground level and use the crane to lift up, or using the long stick to clean the high board by standing on the ground level etc.
  2. Protecting the worker by giving the safety training for whom working at height
  3. Using the working at height equipment to reducing risk such as scaffold, net, cabin, and scissor lift etc.
  4. Using the standardized fall protection such as safety harness, Lifeline, Anchor Point (see more equipment in KS Safety Rooftop) etc.

*How to use the safety harness to prevent from falling?

  1. The worker must wear the full body safety harness with double safety lanyards with shock absorber.
  2. The worker must use the Lifelines or Anchor Point** or stable structure designed for hooking the safety lanyards which is forbidden for hooking with the rail of movable scaffold.
  3. The worker must use the double safety lanyards all the working hours. If it is needed to be taken off, one lanyard must be hooked over the worker’s head always.
  4. The worker must get the working at height training before working at the height.

**Anchor point is the point for hooking the body to the structure.

Conclusion

Working at height is risky for the worker, so the worker must be passed the safety training, managed the suitable working system, using the working at height equipment, and using the standardized fall protection to reduce the risk.
