Reduce the risk of leakage with “rainwater drainage on the roof”

Apart from the beauty, durable and ability of roof sheet to resist forces, the more important is, the drainage of rainwater. Because during rainy season can cause roof leakage and it is the problem that everyone doesn’t want to face, so let’s talk about this more as below.

Apart from the beauty, durability and ability of roof sheets to resist forces, the more important is, the drainage of rainwater. Because during the rainy season can cause roof leakage and it is a problem that everyone doesn’t want to face, so let’s talk about this more as below.

We normally see house, and office building in modern style with roof slope at around 5 degrees (5o) or below that and even large building such as a mall, conventional, market, supermarket, or factory also has low roof slope at 1 - 2 degrees (1o - 2o). The long length of the roof the more chance of accumulated rainwater on the roof, water can flow into the roof through the side laps and flashings and cause leakage). Therefore, we should choose the roof profile and roof system carefully in order to reduce the risks.

In addition, there are other factors that should be pay attention to in order to reduce the risk of roof leakage.

1. Rainwater drainage capacity on the roof, it depends on the profile, the wider and higher of the pan or valley (in picture) will carry water better than the narrow and shallow pan (B). Rainwater drainage information is available for every of KS Group roof profile.

2. Roof System: Boltless system or Seaming system will prevent water leakage better than Bolt system. For Bolt System, a roof slope of less than 5 degrees is not recommended.

3. Low roof slope: At a low slope, the water flow is slower. There is a chance of rainwater accumulating on the sheet. There is also a risk of settlement from the purlins structure that will result in the roof slope being reduced more.

4. Roof length is measured from the roof ridge to the eaves, the longer roof length the water flow slower.

5. Rainfall intensity in each geographical area of Thailand is not the same, South of Thailand has more rainfall, refer to Rainfall Information 50 Years Return Period

6. Penetration, if there is an opening on the roof, water will be obstruct to the eave, the pans (or the valleys) around penetration have to carry rainwater and cause the water leakage easier

Conclusion

We need to choose the roof profile and roof system properly in order to reduce the risk of water leakage, also important to check the rainfall intensity of the roofing sheet to avoid all the problems for your house.
